Doreen, a Jamaican national, has lived in Canada, Dominica, Barbados, Geneva and the USA. Her professional life began as a Registered Nurse/ Clinical Instructor in Montreal and Halifax, Canada. Later, she completed a Bachelor of Science, Public Administration Degree, at the University of the West Indies.
Her international career began when she joined the staff of the World YWCA, a faith-based women’s International NGO based in Geneva, to coordinate a global health project to train volunteers and staff of National YWCAs in the developing world, (Africa, Asia, the Pacific, Latin America, the Caribbean) in the theory, practice and delivery of Primary Health care (PHC) to members and beneficiaries. Later, her work expanded to include wider social and economic justice issues to decrease the incidence of poverty conditions globally. Funds to support these initiatives were raised from government and church related funding agencies in Europe, North America and Australia. On returning to Barbados, she worked with the United Nations Development Programme, (UNDP) as the Regional Coordinator for Poverty Eradication in Barbados and the OEC and continued to work in community development to lessen poverty conditions in the region.
Doreen has been enriched by the many cultures and cuisines, faiths and beliefs, she has encountered in a 25 year span of a rewarding international career. Currently, Barbados is her home where she is passionate about healthy lifestyles and alternate treatments and is a certified Reflexology and Reiki therapist.
